Texas Chainsaw is an excellent point of departure for any film-making enterprise, but you must take the right lessons. The reasons those villains work so well is that they maintain an air of mystery, while at the same time striking certain extremely understandable and familiar chords.
Explaining this more exhaustively only leads to banalization, as if it could be more banal when you explicitly choose the Nazi route.
As for the aesthetic qualities, they are surely there, but hard to see for all the hectic shaking of the camera.
One saving grace: Jean-Pierre Jorris is an absolute delight whenever he is on screen, chewing the scenery like a starving Peter Lorre.
